50cc became the first two-wheeled choice for the Spanish rider in 2010, according to the report that was recently published by ANESDOR, Spain's motorbike and scooter manufacturers association.
Spain has been hit by a string of part suppliers closing including Metra Kit among others that have gone out of business. Several companies continue to exist in a "name brand only" I know MRP imports from many factories that produce products for others like NG ( the disk maker is the OEM for 5 other companies and actually owns the factory ) same with TK Exhausts they make exhausts for 3 other brands plus several known companies like Stage6 outsource certain models to TK Exhausts. So it's been a roller-coaster of a ride for the Spanish market since 2008.
The figure for 50cc registrations is a growth of 9.6%, this is in stark contrast to the fall in sales of road and off-road bikes. In 2010 there was a total of 135,144 motorbikes of all types sold in Spain, compared to the 133,766 registered in 2009.
Additional hope is that gas prices are rising so the two wheel sector is scheduled to come back in 2011, but with fewer companies or more "brands" companies without factories that are merely warehouses that have their items produced outside of Spain.
