Retail prices for a 125cc scooter with electronic fuel-injection (EFI) system (to meet the more stringent standard) often surpass NT$60,000 (US$2,000), compared to about NT$40,000 (US$1,333) before. The high prices hampered many potential purchases and forced PTW makers to push lower-price, entry-level fifth-stage models.
