On the flip side he's also reporting falling sales in the main market in Europe Italy. Both Italy and Spain are devastated since the younger riders 15-20 year olds have no jobs, hope, and face unemployment of over 40%. Meaning the sector that the scooter industry once relied on in the South of Europe is now pushing Bicycles instead of motorized units that require gasoline. It's a really sad state of events that has repercussions across the industry.
I have no clue what is going on in the UK since many of the dealers we used to sell to during the boom years have gotten out of scooters. Back in 2005-2007 MRP had over 20 dealerships mostly in the car business that were getting into scooters. Once car and used car sales went back up the car dealers abandoned the Chinese scooters and went back to car sales. Now a few key players are undergoing the same changes the US experienced with the Chinese unit drop shipping price wars. It can't be good, but it only leads me to believe that Europe will now see the consolidation of the industry the US saw in 2008 - 2010. On a personal note our business has been all about consolidation for if you don't help the dealers find parts and consumers find parts lawsuits, lemon law fights, and all sorts of chaos occurs. Consumers end up paying the price because the judicial system and the banks don't care if your vehicle distributor is going out of business, by the time the government steps in to help distributors its too late and you have thousands of people who can't get to work because they can't find parts for their vehicles. To my knowledge there are no bail-outs for motorcycle or scooter companies only for banks and automobile giants. Sadly we see the same happening in Europe right now that we experienced.
